Biography

I trained in medicine at King's College Hospital. During my postgraduate medical training I undertook a PhD at Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospital (University of London) examining the metabolic effects of insulin in critical illness. I then competed my specialist training (CCT) in Diabetes & Endocrinology and General Medicine in 2010. Since 2012 I work 50% in the NHS as a Consultant in Diabetes, and 50% of my time 50%  in academia, at The ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½. In 2021, I was promoted to Associate Professor of Metabolic Medicine.

My field of interest is type 2 diabetes - specifically the cardiovascular implications of insulin resistance. This extends to the management of diabetic complications including renal disease, diabetic foot, and peripheral arterial disease, as well as the metabolic consequences of obesity and the therapeutic strategies to address them. I have a parallel interest in the role of ethnicity in shaping cardiometabolic risk and treatment response.
