Stag Hill campus
Our Stag Hill campus, situated next to Guildford Cathedral, offers free public access to our green spaces, lake and public art. The site is a teaching hub, home to the ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ Business School and the Guildford School of Acting.
Sculptures and statues
On our Stag Hill campus, you’ll find a number of attractive works of art, including the ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ Stag, All The Gang Are Here, the Geodesic Dome and the Spine.
Other nearby works are Narcissus, which was lent to the University by internationally-known sculptor, William Pye. You can also spot three charming stainless steel fish sculptures around campus: a fish on a bicycle and another on a unicycle are located to the left of Senate House, and the third can be seen riding a tricycle outside the Library.
By the lake, you may notice a group of bronze wolves lurking among the trees, named All The Gang Are Here.
Further to the left, the iconic Geodesic Dome is hard to miss. It was presented to the University in 1982 and is still a major landmark on our campus today.
The Spine is a sculpture by Diane Maclean. Created as a memorial to Maclean’s surgeon father, Spine was highly praised at the 2005 Guildford Heritage Awards.
Outside of the Austin Pearce Building is a statue of Alan Turing, who is considered the ‘father of computing.’ Turing lived his early life in Ennismore Avenue, Guildford.
Outside of the Austin Pearce Building is an impressive bronze sculpture named Knife Birds, the artist of which, Bridget McCrum, was inspired by African tribal knives she saw in the British Museum.
Buildings
We are home to several award-winning buildings, including the £10m Duke of Kent Building, dedicated to HRH The Duke of Kent, whose portrait hangs inside.
Named after a Pro-Chancellor of the University, the Austin Pearce Building was officially opened in 1997 with HRH The Duke of Kent in attendance. Acrobat, one of the University’s most striking sculptures, can be found suspended in the building’s atrium.
¿Û¿Û´«Ã½â€™s £14m Rik Medlik Building is one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the UK. In 2003, it won a Heritage Award from Guildford Borough Council for Environmental Sustainability and the Guildford Society’s Award for Best New Building in 2004.
Our impressive £10m Duke of Kent Building is dedicated to HRH The Duke of Kent, whose portrait hangs inside. It was awarded the Concrete Society Award in 2000 as one of the top 100 buildings in the world.
The James Clerk Maxwell Building, or the 5G/6G Innovation Centre as it’s more commonly known, was completed in 2015. It’s the UK’s first research centre focused on spearheading world-leading research into 5G and 6G mobile communications.
Our Performing Arts Technology Studio offers outstanding music facilities. The building has two exceptional recording studios and a TV studio.
Guildford School of Acting (GSA) is a conservatoire built on a heritage of over 80 years and holds a strong reputation as one of the leading musical theatre schools in the world.
