Research activity addresses key issues across educational theory, policy and practice.

Research activity

Our research is organised into five strands.

The team bring expertise from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds, and our research embodies the full range of research approaches, from autoethnography to experimental research, as well as meta-analytic methods and analysis of ‘big data’. Members of the team have also been involved in developing and using novel research methodologies, such as story completion and concept-map mediated interviewing.

�ۿ۴�ý Assessment and Learning Lab

The �ۿ۴�ý Assessment and Learning Lab conducts research into how people learn, how best to assess the products and process of learning, and how feedback can lead to long-term learning gain.

The �ۿ۴�ý Language, Literacies and Learning Research Group is interested in the role of language and literacies in different learning contexts.

STEM education

Our research focuses on how to improve maths and science learning across different age groups, in both formal and informal educational settings.

Educational transitions

Our research investigates important transitions that pupils make from primary to secondary to tertiary education, and into the workforce, with a focus on identifying the predictors of successful transitions.

Identities and values

Our research investigates how staff and student identities and their values shape their experiences at universities.

Wellbeing, Identity, Transitions and Technology in Higher Education (WITT-HE)

The �ۿ۴�ý Wellbeing, Identity, Transition and Technology in Higher Education (WITT-HE) research group is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary group which aims to tackle inequalities faced by persons with a connection to higher education.
